Avoid using faulty lift, residents urged
02/01/2007 The Star

RESIDENTS of Block 352 of the Macallum Street Ghaut flats in Penang have been urged not to use one of the two lifts in the 21-storey block.

Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Lee Hack Teik said some of the lift's parts had been found to be worn out during a spot check by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) on Dec 15.

He said the department had given the flat's management corporation until Jan 16 to repair the lift.

“The management corporation is presently negotiating with the company that installed the lift to get some parts replaced.

“The residents should use the other lift to avoid any untoward incident,” he said when inspecting the lift on Saturday following complaints from a resident who was confused after a notice was put up by the management corporation on the door of the lift.

The notice warned residents that they are using the lift at their own risk as some of its parts had been certified 'worn out' by DOSH.

A check showed that some residents did not heed the notice but continued to use the lift.
