Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman reminded developers to
comply with the State's by-laws, such as not encroaching into open space and
riparian reserve. "The relevant authorities must not compromise on this and
must ensure that developers comply before approving any development plan,"
he said.
The Chief Minister said this during a joint briefing by Syarikat Perumahan
Negara Berhad (SPNB) and Sabah Housing Development Board on the status of
the development of some 31,000 units of affordable homes (Rumah Mampu Milik)
throughout Sabah at his office at Wisma Innoprise, here.
"I don't want to see any encroachment into children's playgrounds, parks and
so on, " he said.
"We have to be firm on this because non-compliance is one of the factors
causing massive surface run-offs, overflowing drains and eventually floods."
Musa, who is also Finance Minister, said developers must also be more
creative and innovative and move away from boring and dated designs. He
reminded SPNB and LPPB of their respective responsibilities of ensuring that
their projects were completed on schedule and that the quality of the work
was maintained.
"These housing projects must be completed on time so that the people can
benefit," he said.
Also present were Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Hajiji Mohd
Noor, Permanent Secretary Datuk Ujang Sulani, SPNB Chairman Datuk Azian
Osman and SPNB Managing Director Datuk Mohd Amin Mohd Salleh.
