Leave playgrounds and parks alone, says Musa
30/01/2007 The Star

KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman wants developers to stop using children’s playgrounds and parks for projects.

He said they should also not encroach onto land reserved for open spaces and those near rivers and waterways.

“The relevant authorities must not compromise on this and ensure that developers toe the line before approving any development plan,” he said.

“We have to be firm because non-compliance (with such matters) is one of the factors causing massive surface runoffs, overflowing drains and floods.”

Musa said this after being briefed by Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB) and Sabah Housing Development Board on the status of some 31,000 units of affordable homes throughout Sabah.

He reminded the two organisations to ensure that their projects were completed on schedule and that the quality of work was maintained.

He also called on developers to be more creative and innovative and to move on from outdated designs.
