Notices served to seal land belonging to civil servant
31/01/2007 The Star

KOTA BARU: Notices have been served on a district land office to seal 12 plots of land belonging to a high-ranking civil servant suspected of having acquired them through corrupt means.

The notices were served yesterday pursuant to Section 34 of the Anti-Corruption Act 1997, Kelantan ACA director Hasan Yahaya said.

He said this after the handing over of duties ceremony to his successor, former Negri Sembilan ACA director Md Yusoff Md Zaim.

Hasan said the civil servant was likely to be charged soon for having acquired the 12 pieces of land through corrupt means.

He added that the offence was the abuse of position with the objective of benefiting himself, family members or associates.

Hasan, who will assume the post of screening and negotiations division deputy director at the ACA headquarters in Putrajaya, said ACA received 365 complaints of corrupt practices in the state.

He added that 45 investigation papers were opened.

Of the 45 cases probed, 22 or 50% were on abuse of power.

ACA also arrested 11 people, of whom three were charged in court and seven subjected to internal disciplinary action.

He said there were 13 false complaints.

Hasan declined to comment when asked whether the ACA was investigating the Kelantan Government over allegations of corruption made by the Kelantan Umno in public and through the mass media.
