Water woes come to an end

THE Kinrara 3 Business Park in Puchong will be the first project with strata
titles to be offered individual water meters in Selangor.
The move is to resolve frequent water disruption at the 347 commercial
properties located at the 12 blocks of commercial lots.
At the site: Lau (second from left) and Halim (third from left) inspecting
the bulk meters that had been disconnected.
Puchong MP Datuk Lau Yeng Peng brought this about by highlighting the plight
of the property owners in the area.
Under this arrangement, Lau said the owners who had been left without water
for more than a month now would have supply after the meters were fixed.
“Syabas disconnected the bulk meters on Nov 13 after the developer, Sentosa
Restu Sdn Bhd, failed to settle its water bill amounting to RM156,000.
“Sentosa Restu was unable to settle the bill because some of the property
owners had not paid them their dues ,’’ he said.
Syabas general manager for public relations Abdul Halim Mat Som said the
decision on individual meters was made following an appeal by Lau and the
owners.
He said the developer was required to submit an application for the owners
so that the meters could be installed.
''They must pay RM530 as deposit for the water supply and inspection fee,''
he said,
As for the unpaid amount, he added that the money would be recovered from
Sentosa Restu’s water deposit of RM170,000.
Owners pro tem committee chairman George Lim said they had already collected
the deposit from 235 property owners in the area and hoped the application
would be submitted fast by the developer.
He said they had experienced water cuts so many times over the past two
years and were happy that they would be provided with individual meters.
“I hope Syabas will speed the process of installing the individual meters so
that we will not have to suffer for much longer,'' he said.
