KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 11 (Bernama) -- The long-awaited implementation of the
Certificate of Compliance and Completion (CCC) will take effect in April,
Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting said Sunday.
He said his ministry had briefed the parties engaged in the housing industry
for the smooth enforcement of the CCC which replaces the Certificate of
Fitness for Occupation.
The ministry was working to gazette provisions in the Streets, Drainage and
Buildings By-Law (Amendment) Bill 2006 to enforce the CCC, he said.
"April is a sure month for us to get things moving," he told reporters after
launching MCA's caring campaign for the Chinese New Year.
The Bill passed by Parliament in December last year would pave the way for
the CCC to be enforced.
Under the amendments, the responsibility to issue certificate of fitness for
buildings would be vested with professionals like engineers and architects.
Currently, it is under the jurisdiction of local authorities.
Ong said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi would officially
announce in April the commencement date of the CCC at a special briefing for
local government officials and professionals responsible to issue the
certificate.
The CCC is aimed at cutting down on red tape and address the problem of
abandoned housing projects as the certification would be done by
professionals.
The professionals issuing the CCC are liable to be fined up to RM250,000 or
10 years' jail should they fail in their duty.
At the function, about 700 poor pupils from Chinese primary schools in
Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory received Chinese New Year
goodies and "ang pow" and enjoy a ride on the "Eye on Malaysia" ferry wheel
at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa.
