Better late than never

After almost 30 years, the land-owners who paid a total RM49,000 in the
1970s for Lots 415 and 416 in Mukim 6, have finally received individual land
titles for the 2.83ha land.
It has not however been a fruit-less wait as the property price has gone up
tremendously over the years.
According to Seberang Jaya ass-emblyman Arif Shah Omar Shah, who presented
the titles to the landowners yesterday, the land was now worth between
RM2mil and RM4mil.
One of the landowners, Haloyah Hashim, 59, said it had been a lengthy wait
but it was worth it.
“I now finally have my own land,'' said the single mother.
Another owner Zainab Yahya, 57, planned to build a brick house on her plot
of land.
“I was afraid to do anything previously because there was no title,” she
said.
Arif Shah said through discussions and meetings in Dec 1996 and Jan 1997,
the landowners consulted a chartered surveyor and subdivided the land among
themselves.
“Now the land is theirs. Even if the subdivided land is valued at RM200,000
today, it would be a worthwhile investment for the future generation,” he
added.
He said by purchasing the land they live on, the kampung folk could maintain
their original life-style and lessen the risk of being evicted. |
