Bukit Gasing residents fear landslide may occur

PETALING JAYA: Residents of Fraser Towers in Bukit Gasing are living in fear of a landslide after part of the hill slope on top of the condominium gave way on Wednesday.

Prior to the landslide, residents of the 248-unit condominium saw construction works being done at a temple in Jalan 5/68B.

“The Petaling Jaya City Council has not given any approval to the temple for the construction to take place,” MBPJ development and maintenance department director Mohd Amir Tukiman said yesterday.

“We have issued a stop-work order and have ordered the contractor to cover the affected area with plastic sheets.”

Section 5 Residents Association legal adviser Derek Fernandez said the temple was illegal and occupying state land and that the state would be liable for any damage that occurred.

Bukit Gasing assemblyman Datuk Dr Lim Thuang Seng said the state government was aware that the temple was illegal but had not taken any action previously because the state assembly recognised the need for a place of worship in the area.

Lim said the priority now was to ensure the stability of the hill slope.

Temple personnel barred pressmen from entering the temple premises and declined to comment on the matter.
