PUTRAJAYA LANDSLIDE: Police keeping eye on vacated homes
22/03/2007 NST

PUTRAJAYA, THURS:

Police have given the assurance that the situation in the area where a landslide occurred in Precinct 9 early today is under control and advised the affected residents not to worry.

Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief SAC II Mohd Zulhasnan Najib Baharuddin said police personnel had been put on the alert at the affected area to prevent any untoward incidents.

“We are on a 24-hour stand-by and will make sure that thieves won’t strike at the vacated homes as we are fully aware that this is a perfect time for opportunists.

“We are ready for any eventualities although we hope that the rain won’t come down as this could hamper cleaning up efforts,” he told Bernama at the site of the 4.30am landslide here.

There are three 15-storey apartment blocks housing some 1,000 people from 300 families in the area. Affected residents had been evacuated to a nearby community centre.
