Residents affected by landslide allowed to collect belongings
23/03/2007 NST

PUTRAJAYA, FRI.:

The occupants of government quarters in Precinct 9 who were evacuated due to a landslide in the area yesterday were allowed to return home today to collect their belongings.

Several of them were seen returning to their units this morning accompanied by policemen.

About 1,200 residents of the three 15-storey apartment blocks in the government housing complex in Precinct 9 are now being housed in the government quarters in Precinct 14 pending a probe into the incident by the Malaysian Public Works Institute (Ikram).

They were transferred to the temporary quarters yesterday evening after being evacuated to the community hall and a school following the 4.30am landslide which buried and damaged 25 cars but stopped short of the three blocks.

No one was injured.

Federal Territories Minister Datuk Zulhasnan Rafique said yesterday that the government will decide whether the residents can return home after receiving Ikram’s report in two weeks. BERNAMA
