Residents need to get strata titles first
17/03/2007 The Star

GETTING strata titles and forming management committees can be a problem faced by residents of high-rise buildings like those in Seberang Prai, Penang.

Bukit Tengah assemblyman Ng Siew Lai said more high-rise housing schemes were being built in Seberang Prai because of land shortage on Penang Island.

“Some people do not know about the procedures of getting strata titles and the need to form management committees.

“If strata titles are not obtained, residents of high-rise properties cannot form management committees to manage their buildings,” she said.

To educate the public on the matter, a free talk titled ‘Management and Maintenance of High-Rise Buildings’ will be held at 9am tomorrow at the Seberang Prai Municipal Council (MPSP) hall at Jalan Betek in Bukit Mertajam.

The talk is organised by MPSP Local Action 21 High-Rise Building Committee.

Speakers include MPSP councillor Cecelia Wong, High-Rise Unit Owners Association chairman Dr Tiun Ling Ta and Central Seberang Prai Co-ordination Committee chairman Ahmad Tajuddin Ishak.

Ng, who is scheduled to officiate the talk, said it normally took about six months for strata titles to be approved and released.
