SHAH ALAM, March 21 (Bernama) -- Several areas here were flooded following
heavy rain since 2am today.
The affected areas included Taman TTDI Jaya, Jalan Kebun Bunga and the
vicinity of Shah Alam Stadium and Giant hypermarket.
A Bernama survey early this morning found the residents of Taman TTDI Jaya,
which was badly flooded last year, scrambling to take their vehicles to
higher ground when the waters started to rise.
Students of the nearby Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan TTDI Jaya and Sekolah
Kebangsaan TTDI Jaya had to wade to school.
However, none of the houses was flooded and the waters in the housing estate
started to subside at 6am.
Shah Alam City Council liaison officer Shahrin Ahmad, when contacted, said
the personnel of the council, Fire and Rescue and Civil Defence departments
were on standby to monitor the situation and the siren had been sounded to
warn the residents as soon as the heavy rain started to fall.
A Plus Expressways Bhd spokesman said the situation was under control at the
New Klang Valley Expressway and the Kuala Lumpur-bound lanes were now
passable to all vehicles.
Meanwhile, about 100 residents of Kampung Kebun Bunga Batu 3 were evacuated
to the Kampung Kebun Bunga multipurpose hall after their houses were flooded
up to waist level,
Shahrin said, however, that the road in front of the CSR factory, which was
flooded earlier, was already open to all traffic.
