Builder sues TV3 and two others

KUALA LUMPUR: A housing developer has filed a RM160mil defamation suit against Sistem Televisyen Malaysia Berhad (TV3) and two others over a report about the company on its prime-time news bulletin last month.

In the writ of summons filed yesterday at the Civil High Court Registry, Koperasi Kakitangan Malaysia Airports Berhad, as the plaintiffs, named TV3, editor and producer of the Bulletin Utama news programme Datuk Kamarul Zaman Zainal, and broadcast journalist Puspavathy Ramaloo as the defendants.

The cooperative claimed that the defendants had on March 17 broadcast slanderous reports about the company on the station's Bulletin Utama programme. Bulletin Utama is aired at 8pm daily by the station.

The company further claimed that the report had irreparably damaged its reputation.

As such, the plaintiff was seeking an injunction to prevent the station from continuing to broadcast negative reports about the company and damages totalling RM160mil and other relief deemed fit by the court. – Bernama
