Country’s land registration system is secure, says Government
07/04/2007 The Star

KUALA LUMPUR: The Government has denied allegations that land offices in the country used the same personal identification number to access its computerised registration system, leading to forgery of titles.

Natural Resources and Environment Ministry parliamentary secretary Datuk Sazmi Miah said the system, which was changed in 2003, had proven to be efficient and was not a failure.

On Thursday in the Perak State Assembly, Sitiawan assemblyman Ngeh Koo Ham said the new computerised land registration system was not secure because all land offices in the country used the same PIN to access the system.

He said he had come across six cases of landowners discovering fake titles for their plots of land.

Sazmi said the registration system was changed in 2003 after a land titles scam was detected in Selangor.

“There were some cases of land titles being transferred illegally after the implementation of the system but it was due to human factor.

“Those cases happened because of forged documents such as identity cards,” he said when met at the Parliament lobby on Thursday.
