Flat residents have had enough

RESIDENTS of PPR Pudu Ulu in Kuala Lumpur are facing a load of problems from spoilt elevators to potholes and they have sought the help of Cheras MCA service centre chairman Dr Jeffrey Goh.

The 948-unit low-cost flat comprises three blocks and is governed by the City Hall Housing Management Department.

“The lifts are not working, there are potholes in the common area, and the drains behind the flats are clogged, allowing mosquitoes to breed,” resident Yap Tin Yew said.

“My sons aged three and five were down with dengue fever and there were many other residents who suffered the same,” he said.

Goh noted that the lifts in Block B have not been functioning since February and the interior of the lifts has been burnt.

The potholes in the common area have caused many accidents involving children and old folks.

“The potholes were caused by the residents who drag heavy items like gas cylinders on the road. A lot of old folks have tripped on the potholes and fallen,” he said.

Another problem faced by the residents is the shortcut path to SMK Seri Bintang Utara.

“The path is used by many to get to the school or to get to Shamelin Perkasa. It is very dark and dangerous in the mornings and the children are at risk,” he said.

Goh will be meeting with representatives from City Hall to discuss solutions.

“We will try to fix the lifts in two weeks and it will take another two months to upgrade the whole lift system,” he said.

“The roads will also be repaired and we will be organising a gotong-royong to help clear the drain. For the shortcut path, I will try to discuss the matter with the authorities to install streetlights and signboards to assist motorists,” he said.

Goh added that the residents must co-operate and help maintain the housing area.

“Once everything is in place, I really hope that the residents would help maintain the area and not repeat what they have done before,” he said.

Goh will also be requesting for an additional recreational park for adults to perform their daily workouts, as currently there is only a playground for children.
