KOTA KINABALU, May 11 (Bernama) -- A housing tribunal will be set up in
Sabah to protect the interest of house buyers, said state Local Government
and Housing Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor today.
"This will also ensure that the quality of houses is according to
specifications," he told reporters after launching the Kaamatan Real Estate
Exhibition here today.
On the setting up of a one-stop centre at each of the local councils to
speed up approval of development projects in Sabah, he said the local
authority's enactments had to be amended before this could be done.
Earlier in his speech, Hajiji said the state government planned to extend
the warranty or defect liability period under the sale and purchase
agreement from six months at present.
"In comparison, the defect liability period in Sarawak is 12 months while in
Peninsular Malaysia it is 18 months," he said, adding that Kuala Lumpur was
even considering extending it to 24 months.
