JOHOR BARU: Each time it rains, hundreds of Padi Emas Flat residents in
Bandar Baru UDA here are worried about the possibility of major landslides
from a nearby hill.
On top of the hill, said 46-year-old Omar Ali, there were a big water tank
and a number of boulders.
He said that minor landslides had occurred before and immediate action had
been taken to cover the affected areas with plastic sheets.
Dangerous situation: Omar pointing to the soil erosion near his flat in
Johor Baru recently.
However, the sheets might not be able to stop the water tank and boulders
from crashing down the hill during heavy rain, he said.
He suggested that authorities build a concrete wall to prevent more serious
incidents.
Mariam Adon, 44, said many tenants had left because of the risk while flat
owners had seen the value of their flats dropping from RM50,000 when they
first bought them two years ago.
Nevertheless, she thanked the developer for cleaning the debris caused by
the landslides.
Aziah Mohammad, 34, said the worst landslide happened during the major
floods that hit the state at the end of last year and early this year.
An officer from UDA Holdings Berhad, the flats developer, said a contractor
would be appointed to repair the affected slope. – Bernama.
