Better late than never

A family who owns five single-storey terrace houses in Batu Feringghi,
Penang, are relieved that their problems with the developer have been
solved, thanks to the Penang MCA Complaint and Service Bureau.
Khoo Poh Ean, 38, said their problems were solved within a month after they
made complaints to bureau chief Tan Yok Cheng last month.
She said the family purchased the houses from the developer in March 2003.
“The developer promised to deliver the houses to us in March 2005, but we
only got the Certificate of Occupancy in September 2005,” she told a press
conference in Penang recently.
Khoo said they then filed a complaint against the developer at the Consumers
Claims Tribunal last year.
The Tribunal ordered the developer on Aug 17 last year to compensate between
RM8,097 to RM17,518 (on Aug 17,2006.) for late deli-very of the houses, but
the developer had re-fused to pay them the full amount, she said.
With the help of the MCA, the family agreed to accept 70% of the amount
awarded by Tribunal from the developer to settle the problem, she said.

Khoo said the family got the cheques from the developer on Friday and it
would use the money to renovate the houses.
Tan urged the government to ensure that developers paid the compensation in
full awarded by Tribunal for housing related cases. |
